12 reasons why I love my outdoor storage shed kit

Recently I was contacted by a representative of Keter about trying out one of their products.  Once I took a look at their website I knew this was meant to be.  Bentley and I have been needing an outdoor storage shed since we moved here 7 years ago but never could afford to buy or build one.  Isn’t it fabulous when this type of thing happens? A need is met out of the blue? I was ecstatic.  

Before I go any further, please understand that while Keter did provide me with the shed, the opinions I will be expressing are my own and have in no way been influenced by Keter.

So let’s get started with all the reasons I love this outdoor storage shed.

1.  MANY DIFFERENT SIZES OF OUTDOOR STORAGE SHEDS

When I opened up the website I was delightfully surprised by the selection of outdoor storage sheds.  Click here for a link to the Keter website. They had everything from smaller sheds that would be perfect for storing garbage cans right up to large sheds (7.5 feet wide x 17 feet long).  

We went with a 7.5 foot by 11 foot larger shed version because we need enough space to store all our garden tools including our lawn mower and other lawn equipment such as a weed eater, rake, etc.

My husband is thrilled that it is a wide storage shed because with it’s extra space we will be able to park our quad in it all year, even when he has the snow blade on it in the winter and still have room for all the garden equipment.  This made it the ideal choice for us.

With so many options, I am sure everyone will be able to find the perfect size for their lifestyle.

2.  MANY DIFFERENT STYLES AND CONFIGURATIONS

Not only are there many different sizes to choose from but there is also a wide variety of different styles including traditional, cottage and even modern.

The modern shed called the “Signature Storage Shed” really caught my eye with its clean lines and transom windows all along the top.  Talk about a good looking shed!  It really looked nothing like any prefab storage shed I had ever seen so it gave it very much a custom build feel.

As striking as the Signature style was we went with the Newton style because it best complimented our home and greenhouse which are both nearby.

All of the sheds are built with polypropylene resin that looks and feels like wood but does not need the upkeep of wood which is a major plus!  

The colors are great too and provide a wide variety of choices so that you can match your own home coloring.  There is light and dark grey, a basic beige type of brown and beautiful wood like shades of light and dark brown.  The roofs are all black along with the trim pieces.

Not only are there many different styles and also different colors, you can also configure the shed to meet your needs and site requirements. For us we had a long narrow piece for it to fit in and we wanted to be able to drive our quad inside. Choosing a 7.5 foot wide configuration that was 11 feet long, allows us to achieve this goal.

3.  INSTRUCTION MANUALS ARE THOROUGH & SIMPLE

The shed arrived in three large boxes and I have to admit that was quite intimidating.  We opened each of the boxes and found them loaded very neatly with all of the materials.  They also shipped us 12 different instruction manuals with one manual dedicated to a specific size and door configuration.  Some manufacturers try to put all of the various options in one manual and you are left digging through to find out what pertains to the shed you want to build.

Keter gets bonus points for making their instruction manuals so detailed.  With each step you are first given the parts you will need, how many of each part and then the instructions with diagrams follow.  Honestly they could not have made it any easier.  Some manuals give the general idea of what you are doing, but not Keter.  They leave no questions unanswered or any steps up for debate.

4.  ALL PARTS MARKED PERFECTLY

Not only are the manuals easy to follow, all of the parts are labelled with a sticker and a number.  For the very small parts such as screws and clips, they are in well labelled boxes.  The exterior of the box is labelled, each compartment is labelled and the bags are labelled.  Wow talk about organized!

5.  EASY TO ASSEMBLE

This prefab shed was so easy to assemble.  You don’t need to have building contractor experience to assemble this shed nor do you need to be really strong.  In fact, I could pick every single piece up on my own without assistance. With the instructions also so clear, I found my skill level of having no experience building anything more than a planter box, I would be able to build this shed without the assistance of someone like my husband or son.  I would need another set of hands at times because it was much easier having two people for certain parts of the construction.

We have never tried building plastic sheds before.  We have designed and built wood sheds and while I do love them, they do require a lot of upkeep to keep them looking good.

Another note, our build site was prepped and we used a compacted gravel foundation but a concrete foundation would be better or at least concrete slabs.

6.  VERY FEW TOOLS NEEDED

Another bonus is you don’t need a lot of tools.  We simply used a screwdriver, a chunk of wood and a rubber mallet to push the side panels together.

7.  LOOKS GREAT

I loved that it was so easy to put together but another reason I love this outdoor storage shed is because it looks so great.  The faux wood siding really takes it up a level and the styling has a sense of timeless charm. It is so much better than the metal sheds from the past.

Once I have it styled up with wreaths on the doors and window baskets underneath the windows, I think it is going to look even more charming!

8.  WINDOWS TO LET THE LIGHT SHINE IN AND LOOK CUTE

Having two windows is really great for letting the natural lighting to shine in and of course it also makes it look so much cuter from the outside.  We could have put one on either side but opted for both windows on the one side facing our house.

Once we had this shed complete, I thought about how it could double as office space or even a craft room for me.  It really is a versatile unit.

9.  STURDY

There are metal supports that hold up the roofing and strengthen the sides.  We were a little worried about the shed because we get extremely strong winds that do a lot of damage.  Wouldn’t you know it, two days after completing the shed we had a very strong wind storm but the shed did not budge.  We were very impressed with how sturdy it is.

10.  TWO DOORS FOR A WIDE OPENING

Another great feature is the double doors on the front.  These double doors allow for easy access to move things in and out of the shed including our quad!  Most sheds have a single door but this double door system makes the shed so much more functional.

11.  EASY TO CLEAN

Using polypropylene resin was a great idea because it is so easy to clean.  Just get out your hose and scrub it down.

12.  DURABILITY AND LONGEVITY

Wood sheds are nice, but they can look old and worn quite quickly.  Polypropylene resin as the exterior material was a great choice because of it’s durability.  It will not peel, crack or fade.  It is weather resistant and UV protected.  Everyone has a busy life, so not having to maintain a shed is a nice bonus.

ADDING A LITTLE PERSONALITY

I couldn’t just leave it plain so I added some simple faux flower swags on the front door and some window baskets on the sides.

IN SUMMARY

Due to the high quality materials that will not need maintenance, the ease of putting it together and all the options for sizes and style, I would have to say this outdoor storage shed is a winner!  It is a great shed that offers plenty of room for all your storage needs and I am sure there is the right size for everyone!

REMEMBER, DON’T LIMIT IT TO JUST BEING A GARDEN STORAGE SHED

There are other ways to use this structure, such as a:

• chicken coop;
• pool house to store all your pool equipment and toys;
• sports equipment storage unit;
• home office in warmer months; or
• interior and exterior seasonal decor storage such as Christmas decor.
