Discover the ultimate party appetizer: Loaded Tater Tot Cups! This easy recipe combines crispy tater tots loaded with cheese and all the fixings. They are a crowd-pleasing snack that’s perfect for any occasion.
I recently made these for a Super Bowl party and they were a huge hit! Don’t wait until game day though and give this recipe a try as a tasty appetizer or a casual side dish or even as a satisfying snack. This loaded tater tot recipe requires only simple ingredients and was so each to make. Definitely give them a try if you are in a pinch for time. If you love a loaded baked potato you are going to love these loaded tater tots!
Ingredients:
- 16 oz bag of frozen tater tots
- 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
- 7 slices of bacon
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 2 green onions
- Optional: Ranch dressing, hot sauce or salsa
Equipment:
- 2 muffin tins (regular size)
- Shot glass
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Small food processor
- Cheese shredder
- Skillet
- Measuring spoons and cups
- Knife
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 450 F. Place rack on bottom level.
Spray muffin pan cups with cooking spray.
Place 4 frozen tater tots in each muffin cup evenly spaced in the cup. If you only have a mini muffin tin, then place 3 tater tots in each cup. Put in the oven for 10 minutes.
Place the bacon in a large skillet on medium heat to medium-high heat on a stove top and cook until crisp. Break pieces into small pieces. I used a small food processor to chop up somewhat finely. Set aside. If you didn’t want to fry bacon you could always substitute real bacon bits.

Remove from oven and press the tater tots down in the middle with the shot glass. If the shot glass is sticking, spray with non-stick cooking spray. Press the tater tots into a cup like shape.

Place in oven for 15 minute or until golden brown.
While the tater tots are baking, cut the green onions into small pieces.

Remove from oven and place 1 tablespoon of cheese to each tater tot cup. Bake for 4 to 5 minutes until the cheese has melted.
Place a tablespoon of bacon in each cup and top with a few pieces of shredded cheese. Top with a small scoop of sour cream and garnish with green onion.

Serve while warm.

If you would like something with a bit more spice, consider dipping them in hot sauce or salsa.
These crispy tots are so delicious. I tried many new recipes on game day and this was by far my favorite
If you have any leftovers, which I doubt you will, store them in an airtight container.
Optional ideas:
Instead of crispy bacon and sour cream, you could substitute ground beef with taco seasoning following the package instructions.
