how to create a cherry blossom painting FOR SPRING

MATERIALS: - canvas, faux cherry blossoms, paint (white, pink, brown), wire cutters

Prepare the background

With watered down pink paint and a sponge brush, blot the paint on and then blend.

Paint background branches

With brown paint and a flat brush, paint on branches.  These do not have to be done in great detail.  This is a very basic painting style.

Painting the blossoms

With white paint and a round brush, paint for petals with thick paint.

Adding stamen

With a very thin brush and brown paint add small lines in the middle of the blossoms to represent the stamen.

Adding more branches

These branches are supposed to be closer and therefore more detailed.  Start with a basecoat of dark brown, then add a highlight of lighter brown on the top surface and along the right side of the branches.

Add falling petals

If you have ever walked under a cherry tree, you will have noticed that petals are always falling.  Add a few single petals falling down the canvas.

Style the painting

I glued a few faux blossoms onto real branches and placed them in a garden trug. A cute star birdhouse finishes the look!

Place a few more branches in a large vase
